My learning aims in the online world exam are:

  • investigate online services and online communication
  • investigate components of the internet and how digital devices exchange and store information
  • investigate issues with operating online.

My thoughts about this unit

Someone told me that BTECs don’t have exams on them and that was partly what they were all about. Anyway all of a sudden they have exams on them and I have to do two!

The first one is The Online World.  I really, really enjoyed this unit but I don’t like doing exams so much. However, at least this is about something that I am interested in.  There are a lot of things to learn, however. All the class thought that this was going to be an easy unit because what we had to learn is quite straightforward.

When we started doing past papers, though, we realised that it was a bit harder than it looked.  First of all, there are a lot of things to learn – like I said before.  That means that a lot of what we revise is not going to appear in the exam.  Plus the questions were a bit more in depth than we were used to.  So it was not such an easy unit after all!

The worst is the 8 point question at the end.  It can mean the difference between one grade and another but you really have to know the answer in depth.  I don’t really think there is time to go that much in depth when you only have one lesson a week to get ready for this exam.

Anyway, here is my result.  I got a L2 Pass which I am happy with in some ways as it is better than a L1 Pass. However, it really is difficult to get a Merit in this exam and I don’t think it’s really possible to get a Distinction unless you’re Steven Hawking!
